During 1888, in Rochester New York, two young men, Daniel N. Calkins and Clarence P. Crowell, having the ambition of owning their own company, bought the Rochester agency of the Aromatic Disinfecting Company of Philadelphia. After achieving success and expanding the business, they changed the name to Rochester Germicide in 1894. George C. Ford joined the business and in 1897 the incorporation was complete. |
In 1898 and 1901, they received the patents on the Calkins Disinfector, now known as the Sanor Appliance. Made of steel and glass. |
In 1936, a modernized design was unveiled to meet the changing needs of the customer, still made of steel and glass. |
In 1972, with the popularity, durability, and lighter weight of plastic, the glass and steel models gave way to an all-plastic design. The plastic bottle and tray eliminated accidents involving broken glass. |
Again changing with the times, the Sanor appliance was updated in 1996 for a more contemporary, smooth look. A fan unit was also added as a compliment to boost the fresh fragrance level in the air. |

Through the years, Sanor has provided a clean restroom environment for all RMC customers. |
